Built in the 16th century, the Green Gate closed off Gdańsk’s main square, Długi Targ (Long Market), from the Motława River. Its architectural form is an example of Dutch Mannerism, a style that gave Gdańsk its distinctive character. Today, the Green Gate is one of the city’s most important historic landmarks and a branch of the National Museum in Gdańsk. It hosts temporary exhibitions of old and contemporary art, as well as meetings and conferences.
